MATCH PREVIEW- ROTHBURY v. BENTON CON. CLUB, NFA MINOR CUP THIRD ROUND, Kick-Off 1.30pm

It’s been a long time coming as Rothbury haven’t kicked a ball since the 19th December last year – but boss Danny Olson says his side is ready to get back into action.

“The season re-start couldn’t come quick enough. It’s been a strange season so far but at last we are back,” said Olson, whose side were on a decent run of form before the pandemic-enforced break when the Reds won four on the bounce at the end of 2020.

There is a new look to the Armstrong Park side now as Olson has strengthened his team during the lockdown with the addition of some players with Alliance Premier experience.

“We have added Paul Dunn from Percy Main, Thomas Roscoe from AFC Killingworth and Mitch Gray who has previously been with high-flying neighbours Wallington,” said Olson.

“A number of players have called time on their Rothbury careers and we wish them all the best in their futures,” he continued.

“We have trained well this week and we look forward to getting out on the grass again.”

The Minor Cup gives Rothbury a target to aim for during the last couple of months of another crazy season, with the round-robin Combination Cup also to play for. .
