Gosforth Bohemians v Rothbury
Northern Alliance Division One
Saturday 1st February 2020, kick-off 2.00pm
Midfield battler Kyle Smith will take the captain’s armband
at Rothbury following the departure of Tom Macpherson. But until Smith returns
from injury, the side will be led by Sam Proudlock.
Boss Dan Herron explained: “Kyle was vice captain so has
naturally progressed as the club captain - it’s good for him as he’s a big
dressing room character and he wears his heart on his sleeve. “
“He is injured at the moment though, so the new
vice-captain, Sam Proudlock, will take the armband until his return. Sam has
captained the side before Tom came back from Alnwick, so he knows what it’s all
about. He’s the most intelligent player at the club so the lads respect his
opinions in the dressing room.”
Herron is hoping to see the same kind of
performance from his side that they put in during the first half of their
defeat by League leaders Hebburn Town u23s last weekend on their visit to
Bohemians, who sit two spots and a point adrift of the Reds.
“I want us to start bright and play the right way, and
with a bit more fortune hopefully we can get 3 points. We need to make sure we
galvanise together through the rough patch and work as a team for the result,”
said Herron.
At the risk of a Roy Keane-style scowl and
tongue-lashing, the question is tentatively posed if striker Chris Coe will be
available for selection after the birth of his first child this week. Herron,
however, has a bit more tact than the Irishman and laughed: “No, Coesy is
available, no shocks there, he’s one of the most committed squad members for
sure. Congratulations to him and Hannah from all at the club.”
The Reds hope to be further boosted as more players
return from the treatment table and Herron hopes to have James Loughborough
back from his spell side-lined through injury.
“We want our young players to grab the opportunity to
play in these types of games - it’s what
their development is made for,” concluded the gaffer.
