Wallsend Boys Club v Rothbury
Northern Football Alliance Division One
Saturday 11/01/20 kick-off 2.00pm
Rothbury skipper Tom MacPherson says his team-mates will be
looking to impress in the trip to Wallsend ahead of next weekend’s Combination
Cup semi-final.
The experienced central defender is keen to lift some
silverware again this season and still has an eye on promotion – but is under
no illusions as to the size of the task ahead.
The Coquetdalers are hoping to string a series of results together
after starting the New Year with a victory at Felling Magpies last Saturday, and
MacPherson is anticipating another tough game at Kirkley Park.
“We’re looking forward to visiting Wallsend - I think
they’ve got a new pitch so I’m looking forward to us playing our stuff on it,”
said MacPherson.
“I think it will be a competitive game. They are dangerous out
wide with the Jarvis-Smith brothers, and I see they’ve signed some new lads so
we go there well aware they’ll be a big challenge.”
Rothbury sit two spots ahead of the Boys Club in the table with
one point more, and the Greens have played one game extra. But a victory for
either side could put them within striking distance of the promotion spots.
“We have a strong squad ourselves this week ahead of next
week’s semi-final so competition for places will be fierce,” continued the
captain, who is very much focussed on setting goals for the rest of the
campaign.
“Our aim for the season has to be a Cup Final win and
promotion, but to achieve that we will have to go on a massive run of winning
games,” he said.
