Rothbury v Hebburn Town u23s
Northern Football Alliance Division One
Armstrong Park, 25th January 2020, kick-off 2.00pm
I had a good chat about Northern Alliance football with Hebburn
striker Adam Lennox’s dad in the superb Back
Page shop in Newcastle last weekend. They’re all top lads in the St. Andrew’s
Street football memorabilia emporium. Where else in the country could you go
and talk the Step 7 game half an hour ahead of a huge floodlit Premier League
fixture taking place just 100 yards across the road? That’s just one of the
reasons that make North East football special.
Adam had hit ten goals in a local Sunday League game recently
– in half an hour, before coming off – so Rothbury skipper Tom Macpherson and
his back line will be well briefed ahead of the fixture. The Reds are already
aware of the goal threat that the Town youngsters possess after a 5-1 defeat at
the League leaders back in August.
Boss Dan Herron is well clued up and said: “Hebburn are a
good side who are dangerous on the counter attack. They killed us on the 3G
breaking in speed so it’s something we need to be mindful of.”
Herron has taken the demands right off his players following
their disappointing Combination Cup semi-final defeat at Bedlington last
Saturday and wants them to go out and show what they can do without any worries.
“For us it’s back to basics and playing the way we want to,
without fear and with confidence. We see the remaining games as ones we want to
compete in but we’ll not be piling pressure on them!” he said.
“We’ve got a decent little squad available so we’re looking
forward to it.
I’d like to think we’ll have a decent crowd down there for
sure!”
Get along to Armstrong Park for what promises to be
an exciting game. And if you’ve got an hour or two spare when you’re in the
town another day, drop in to the Back
Page for a crack with the lads yourself.
