ROTHBURY AT ASHINGTON OAKS IN STELRAD MINOR CUP THIRD ROUND

Ashington Oaks v Rothbury
Stelrad NFA Minor Cup Third Round
Saturday 9th November 2019, kick-off 12.30pm

****Please note change in kick-off time to 12.30 at Hirst 3G****

Reds boss Dan Herron wants his players to concentrate on their own game as they make the visit to Ashington Oaks in the NFA Minor Cup.
While the Oaks are somewhat of an unknown quantity, Herron feels the best way to avoid any potential banana skin is by the Rothbury squad doing what they do best.
We don’t know much about them, to be honest. It’s a case of focussing on us rather than them. We don’t want any complacency to set in, so we won’t be reading too much into them, and concentrating on us,” said the gaffer.
The Oaks play in Division Three of the North Eastern Combination League alongside the likes of former NNFL sides Amble Masons and Amble St Cuthbert. They have won one, drawn one and lost three of their opening games with 16 goals conceded and 11 scored.
Herron is looking forward to the trip to Hirst Welfare and continued: “It’s the magic of the Minor Cup playing different opponents - it’s what makes it really interesting.”
“We’ll be approaching it the same was as we’d approach an Alliance Division 1 game, maybe take it seriously even more so. The Minor Cup is so prestigious and a one we really want to do well in. I think the best Rothbury has ever done is the quarter finals, so we at least want to match that if not better it!”
But we can’t take anything for granted and will take each game as it comes. We need to take our solid defensive performance from last week, coupled with our passing football, and hopefully we can get the result,” concluded the boss.
The fourth round of the County competition usually takes place in December, with the quarter finals in February, the semi finals in March and the Final in May.
