FELLING MAGPIES v ROTHBURY
Northern Football Alliance Division One
Saturday 16th November 2019
kick-off 2.00pm
Anybody that backs the horses knows
that there’s no such thing as a dead cert. Looking at the Division One table
and seeing Saturday’s hosts Felling Magpies languishing in the basement with 9 defeats from their opening 9 league games with just 8 scored and
53 conceded, and you’d think that Rothbury would fancy their chances.
There’s no doubt that the Reds will be
optimistic going into the game, but arrogance and underestimating the
opposition aren’t things that are really considered down at Armstrong Park.
Boss Dan Herron will certainly be
showing the hosts plenty of respect and said: “Nothing is won on paper. We’ll
be again taking it game by game and going out to try and get 3 points and build
on our clean sheet last time out!”
“I’m really hoping the lads are up for
it - our form has been decent over the last 6 barring the Prudhoe game, so I’m
hoping we can take some of that into it. We’ve got a couple of lads missing so
it will give other lads a chance to stamp their authority down,” he continued.
With a number of players unavailable for
the Reds squad in recent weeks, the younger and less experienced members of
Herron’s side have stepped up and shown talent and desire with their performances,
and the boss admitted that there is a great togetherness and ambition to
develop throughout the Coquetdale club.
“All the young lads are impressing and
knocking on the door - it’s great to see healthy squad competition and the more
senior players at the club now welcome it,” he said.
“We want a squad who have the right
attitudes, and are interested in the development of the lads and for the best
of the team, and that’s exactly what we’ve got at the moment. All of the lads are
for the team’s results, and not their individual accolades.”
Rothbury advanced into the fourth round
of the NFA Minor Cup without kicking a ball last weekend as they were awarded a
walkover at Ashington Oaks, and while the gaffer was chuffed to be in the hat,
he was slightly disappointed in the manner that the Reds went through.
“In all honesty it was great to go
through without a doubt, but I’d much rather earn it, and I missed not having a
game. So here’s hoping the weather holds off tomorrow!” he added.
“We’ve offered Felling a potential
reverse if their pitch is unplayable, but with all the rain here, we might be
in the same boat, literally!!”
