Rothbury v. Prudhoe YC Seniors
Reeves Independent George Dobbins League Cup Round 2
Saturday 26th October 2019, kick-off 2.00pm
It’s very much a case of watching the weather ahead of
Rothbury’s League Cup fixture against fellow Division One side Prudhoe YC at
Armstrong Park this weekend.
With last Saturday’s game against Hexham washed out and
further heavy rain forecast, the Reds can only hope that the tie gets the green
light as a morning pitch inspection will likely be required.
Award-winning groundsman Eric Cummings’ pitch has stood up
well to the rigours of the Northumbrian climate and manager Dan Herron has his
fingers crossed that the predicted deluge misses Coquetdale.
“We’ll be looking to see what the weather's
like and hopefully we can get the game on,” he said, as the Reds eagerly anticipate meeting the side that they drew 2-2 with in their opening game in the higher
division.
With Prudhoe sitting second in the table just
two points adrift of leaders Red Row Welfare, Herron knows his side will be in
for a tough tie but is confident that his squad can put in a performance.
“Prudhoe are a decent side for sure, and
have had some good results recently. They’ve probably been the best footballing
wise we’ve seen so far - they like to get it down and play with pace too,” he
continued.
With five wins on the bounce ahead of the postponement
last weekend, Rothbury are in a rich vein of form and Herron hopes to have a
good squad to select from should the game get the go-ahead.
“It’s hard when you’ve got a run going, but
that’s how it is to be fair. There’s no point wrecking that carpet of a pitch
we have for one game! We’ve got a couple coming back in but others missing too.
We’ve still never been full strength but we’re hoping for a decent squad.”
The Third round of the competition is due
to be played on the 23rd of November.
