FELLING MAGPIES v ROTHBURY
Reeves Independent George Dobbins League Cup
Saturday 14th September 2019, kick-off 2pm.
Rothbury are in League Cup action on Saturday when they
visit fellow Division One side Felling Magpies at Wardley Welfare.
The Mags have had a difficult start to the season and are
bottom of the table having been beaten in all seven of their opening games and
netting just 4 times, while conceding 45.
But League form counts for nothing in the Cup as everyone
knows, and Reds boss Dan Herron will be keen to avoid a potential banana skin.
“We’re keen to pick our form up to be fair, we’ve been poor
and need a lift, so both teams will be in the same mood I guess,” said the
boss.
Herron will assess his side in training and make his
selection on the day, with the chance of some fringe players getting a run out
and the chance to show what they can do away from the pressures the League.
“We’ll have to see what the selection availability is, for
sure there will be some changes, so we’ll see,” continued Herron.
Rothbury reached the Quarter Final stages of the League Cup
last season before going out 2-0 at Newcastle University, so the gaffer is
hopeful that his team can put on another good showing this time around.
“It’s definitely a competition we relish,” he said.
“A chance to prove yourself against the best in the league -
we were unlucky to go out against the Uni last year after playing well. So
hopefully we can better that this year.”
