Rothbury v. Gosforth Bohemians
Team Valley Carpets Combination
Cup
Saturday 21st September 2019, kick-off 2.00pm.
Rothbury manager Dan Herron says that the Bohs side beaten
by the Reds in the League last month may contain a number of changes after the
Benson Park outfit appointed a new boss.
Although the Coquetdalers ran out 2-0 victors on that
occasion, Herron feels he can’t use that match as a gauge ahead of the
Combination Cup tie between the two sides at Armstrong Park on Saturday and
said: “I hear they’ve changed managers since then, so we
have to take it at face value and play what’s in front of us really. We had a good
turnout to training and the lads are fired up for it. ”
Midfielder Kyle Smith is still serving
a suspension but the gaffer is hopeful for a strong squad ahead of the match.
“Availability for the last 3 or 4 games
has been quite low which isn’t like us, so it would be good to have a decent
squad at home in the cup,” he said.
“We’re definitely hoping to build on a
positive performance where we dominated possession really well last weekend (in
a 5-2 League Cup success at Felling Magpies), so we’ll see how it goes.”
The Cups have been targeted by the
Armstrong Park backroom staff as competitions in which they hope to enjoy some
success this term, and they’re taking every one seriously.
“We are looking forward to the Cup
competitions this year,” continued Herron.
“Although we did well in the League, we
got a non-entry in the Minor for silly admin stuff and went out disappointingly
against Jesmond in the Amateur last year, so we’re hoping to better that this
term.”
“All the lads have the Minor Cup in the
corner of their eye,” he admitted.
“It’s a long way to go but the best
competition we’re part of so, yeah, we’re hoping for some cup magic this year!”
