Get down to Armstrong Park and help cheer the lads to success – that’s the message from the Rothbury camp as they prepare to take on Seaton Sluice on Saturday.
The Reds management have been delighted with the support that has lined the banks around the pitch this season and with numbers approaching the three-figure mark on several occasions, they hope that the Bank Holiday sunshine can attract a record turnout.
Title rivals Blyth FC turned around a 1-0 half time deficit at Gateshead Redheugh in midweek to record a 2-1 success that took them to within 11 points of Rothbury, both teams now having played 25 games. The two sides meet at Armstrong Park next weekend.
“The crowds have been massive for us this season. There are teams in the Northern League getting less than us,” said player coach Tom Macpherson.
“We’ve been buzzing with the home crowds - I think that shows with our home record where we are unbeaten in the league.”
With 24-goal striker Richie Clarke leading the line for the visitors, Macpherson will have a job on his hands marshalling the in-form targetman but the Coquetdalers, as ever, have done their homework on the travelling side and will approach the game in the same professional manner.
“We won’t be taking Seaton Sluice for granted,” admitted Macpherson.
“Their form has improved massively since the new management took over so we will have to be wary of that, striker Richie Clarke in particular. We are looking forward to it. We have been playing some quality stuff in recent weeks so it should be a good game in the sun.”
The Reds are missing a couple of players but otherwise have a full squad available to select from.
