Rothbury v Whitley Bay SC
Team Valley Carpets Northern Football Alliance Division Two
Armstrong Park, Saturday 23rd March 2019,
kick-off 2.30pm.
MATCH SPONSOR: ANDREW STEWART, ROOFERS & BUILDERS,
ROTHBURY.
Reds manager Dan Herron isn’t letting the big game build-up
get to himself or his player’s heads and insists that there is still a long way
to go in the Championship race.
Rothbury host joint leaders Whitley Bay SC on Saturday in a game that that
could see either side open up a three-point gap at the top.
While the Coquetdalers have a cushion of three games in hand
on the visitors, they are far from complacent and know that Bay will hit them
with everything they’ve got.
“We’re looking forward to a competitive
game,” said Herron.
“Hopefully the weather holds off and the match is on because we’re eager to get back on Armstrong. We see the game as
important for the lads, but won’t be putting too fine of a point on it really.
It would be great to get 3 points for confidence and momentum, but there’s a
long way to go with 8 games left and three games in hand, plus Blyth’s three in
hand on us.”
Rothbury’s fixture fell foul to the weather
last weekend, with a large chunk of the Alliance programme also wiped out, but
Herron is confident that the club’s groundsman Eric Cummings will have the
surface in its usual immaculate condition for the important game.
“The pitch will be in top notch shape no
doubt, thanks to Eric. Hopefully we can grace it with some free flowing passing
football – we’re very much focussed on trying to get 3 points and one more step
towards promotion,” he continued.
The gaffer also appealed to the local fans to
turn out in their numbers again, with the club attracting numbers up towards the
three-figure mark in their first season in Alliance football.
“We’d like to urge for a bumper crowd there
again if possible - the lads love the support and we’ll need it all in the
closing games!” said Herron.
