VISIT TO CRAMLINGTON TOWN NEXT UP FOR REDS

Cramlington Town v Rothbury
Northern Football Alliance
Team Valley Carpets Division Two
Saturday 8th December 2018, Cramlington Sporting Club, kick-off 2.00pm.

Just a few short weeks ago, Cramlington Town were rock bottom of the Northern Alliance Second Division after losing their opening five fixtures – but the Sporting Club side have turned things around with wins over Burradon and Seaton Sluice and a draw against Blyth FC in their last three games.
That has been enough to take James Merilo’s team up to thirteenth in the table as he has added a number of new additions to the squad.
Town keeper Craig Jones also won a bit of Internet stardom this week when a picture of him wearing US side Temecula FC’s grey goalkeeper top in a match was Tweeted by ‘The Quails.’
So Rothbury can expect something of a more difficult encounter than the comfortable 2-0 success they recorded over the Cramlington side at Armstrong Park back in September, and player coach Tom Macpherson is well aware of the challenge ahead.
“Cramlington Town will be a totally different team to the one we beat earlier in the season,” he said.
“Since the new manager took over they’ve made some impressive signings, mainly from the Alliance Premier and Northern League. We need to go into Saturday with confidence and get the three points to keep the pressure on Whitley Bay Sporting,” continued Macpherson.
The leaders have a tricky-looking trip up to Berwick to take on Spittal Rovers and the Reds fans will be keeping a keen eye out for the result from Newfields Park.
The trip to south-east Northumberland marks the half way point in what has so far been an impressive first season in the Northern Football Alliance for Rothbury, and Macpherson is confident that the Coquetdale side can maintain their challenge at the top.
“We are pleased to have a few players back this Saturday, so we should have a strong squad for the game,” he said.
