ROTHBURY HOST JESMOND IN RE-ARRANGED LEAGUE FIXTURE

Rothbury v. Jesmond
Northern Football Alliance
Team Valley Carpets Division Two
Saturday 17th November 2018, Kick-off 2pm

Rothbury face Jesmond at Armstrong Park this weekend in a re-arranged fixture as the previous League meeting between the sides in Coquetdale – a 4-3 win for the visitors – was expunged from the records after an administrative error saw them field an ineligible player.
Joel Laviers and Gareth McCann are both sidelined as they serve the final games of their suspensions for the Reds, but joint player boss Tom Macpherson has a strong squad available to select from and is hoping for another big turn-out to cheer Rothbury on.
“The game will no doubt be lively with both sides liking to play fast passing football and aggressive out of possession. Hopefully we can keep our discipline in this game as the last two times we’ve faced Jesmond we’ve lost shape in the second half,” he said.
“We need to treat this game like a free shot in my opinion, no pressure whatsoever as it’s a second chance really. A win keeps us top of league and going into a hard run of games in December that’s important. We are exceeding all expectations so far but now we are there we aim to stay there,” continued Macpherson.
Rothbury’s fantastic start to life in the Northern Alliance has seen them lose only once in the League so far – away to Blyth FC in their opening game – but Macpherson thinks that people have now cottoned on to the fact that they’re going to get a tough game against the former NNFL side.
“I think we’ve had the element of surprise in some way as nobody would have known anything about us but that’s gone now I feel,” he said.
“I hope to see another bumper crowd down at Armstrong Park on Saturday - the support this season has been phenomenal. We took a few to Stobswood last weekend and I’m sure they’d agree it was worth the trip - we played some fantastic stuff at times.”
