REDS VISIT STOBSWOOD FOR LOCAL DERBY

Stobswood Welfare v. Rothbury
Northern Football Alliance
Team Valley Carpets Division Two
Saturday 10/11/18 Kick-off 2pm.

Rothbury are back on the road for a local derby as they visit Stobswood’s Recreation Ground on Saturday.
The sides have been involved in many entertaining clashes in the past during their times in the North Northumberland League, but this is the first meeting between the two clubs in the Northern Alliance.
Stobswood were 4-0 victors over Seghill at the Rec last weekend and beat Ellington 3-0 in the Amateur Cup the week before, so the League leaders are anticipating another difficult game against a side containing a number of familiar faces.
Joint player/manager Tom Macpherson is looking forward to the local derby and said: "Facing old foes again will hopefully bring about a better performance from the lads. A few of our lads are looking forward to seeing old Alnwick teammates Rob Baker and Adam Shanks, who are obvious dangers. They also have Jake Baker, Calvy Flanighan and Connor Leason signed on, who are all big players for Amble Tavern on a Sunday, so they’ll not be an easy game."
Macpherson is keenly aware that the chasing pack are closing in on Rothbury's position at the head of the table but is remaining calm and focused.
"I think it’s between 5 or 6 teams - Cramligton United, Whitley Bay, Blyth, Ellington being the main dangers, I would say. We just have to keep winning our games and playing our stuff. I think us being disappointed with a draw last week after being behind twice shows how far we’ve come."
Rothbury are without the services of the suspended Joel Laviers and Gareth McCann, and regular keeper Dom McMahon is unavailable due to work commitments.
"We have Ben Storey, Tony Brown and Peter Weddell all returning, and also have a possible new signing or two coming in," said Macpherson.
Officials at the Coquetdale club are impressed with the new facilities at Stobswood's old Miner's Welfare ground and plans are in motion to have Rothbury's ground up to a similar standard at the earliest opportunity.
