Winter is
here and chances are the pitches will get heavier, but Rothbury boss Dan Herron
is keen for the Reds to maintain the impressive playing style that has rocketed
them to the top of the table.
Rothbury’s
slick pass and move game has won them the plaudits as well as the points in
their first season in Northern Alliance football, and Herron’s philosophy is ‘if
it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’
“We’d like
to keep passing the ball as best we can - that’s the style we want to play all
the time if possible. Although we can adapt as Thompa, Gar and Jackie have all
got good enough touches to ping the ball into!” he said.
The
Coquetdalers host a Willington Quay Saints side that have strengthened their
squad with a couple of additions in mid-week, and Herron is well aware of the
challenge that the visitors will pose after their 3-0 success over Spittal
Rovers last time out.
“We’re definitely
expecting a test,” admitted Herron. “Saints have got some good form and are challenging
in the league, for sure. I’d love to see the lads bounce back after the flat
performance on Saturday. I know we’ve got the character in the squad to do it.
It’s just a case of getting them into the mental position before the game,” he
continued.
The Reds
are hoping to field as full strength a squad as possible for the fixture and may
be boosted by the return of both Herron and skipper Tom Macpherson, if things
go to plan.
“Hopefully
things should be getting better on the injury front - I think me and Tom are
both trying to train tonight. But there’s a couple with knocks from the
Chemfica and Jesmond games, so we’ll have to wait and see,” he said.
