ROTHBURY LEGEND SET FOR SHOCK RETURN?

This Saturday’s visit to Gateshead Redheugh (6/10/18 kick-off 2.30 pm) holds no surprises for Rothbury joint-player boss Tom Macpherson.

The Reds visited Eslington Park just a fornight ago where they were 2-1 victors in an Amateur Cup tie.

But Macpherson knows the importance of getting a result from the fixture with the vast majority of other sides in the Team Valley Carpets Second Division engaged in County Cup action.

“We know what to expect - they play some nice football and have a few tidy players, especially in midfield, so we know we need to be on our game,” he said.

“We know that their pitch is top class and we can play our football on it, so we expect another good game against them. This is our game in hand on the teams around us so that’s the biggest incentive that the lads need - return to the top of the table before next week’s top of the table clash.”
Rothbury have a number of players returning to the side for the match, and Macpherson hopes to be able to select from a side bolstered in numbers.

“Last week was the first game where we’ve only been able to name four subs, but thankfully this Saturday sees our numbers return with Joel, Kyle, Makin, Gaz McCann and Lawsy all available again. We should only have Alex Laviers, Dan Herron and Matty Travis missing,” he continued.

The former Alnwick Town man also claimed that a legendary ex-Rothbury striker could be set to make a return to the side.

“There’s been a little rumour that Jackie Angus has been during some extra training and is ready to make a shock return! It’s probably going to be a hard one to call in terms of selection, but that’s a good problem to have.”

The boss has been delighted with the crowds that have been turning up, but also put out a call for more people in the village to get down to Armstrong Park and help cheer on the side.

“October is a massive month for the lads, two leagues games which could see us 5 points clear and two cup games against tough opposition, so all the support we can get would be a massive help! Our fixtures are available on our Twitter and Facebook pages,” he said.
