This Saturday’s visit to Gateshead Redheugh (6/10/18 kick-off 2.30 pm) holds no surprises
for Rothbury joint-player boss Tom Macpherson.
The Reds visited Eslington Park just a fornight ago where
they were 2-1 victors in an Amateur Cup tie.
But Macpherson knows the importance of getting a result from
the fixture with the vast majority of other sides in the Team Valley Carpets
Second Division engaged in County Cup action.
“We know what to expect - they play some nice football and
have a few tidy players, especially in midfield, so we know we need to be on
our game,” he said.

Rothbury have a number of players returning to the side for
the match, and Macpherson hopes to be able to select from a side bolstered in
numbers.
“Last week was the first game where we’ve only been able to
name four subs, but thankfully this Saturday sees our numbers return with Joel,
Kyle, Makin, Gaz McCann and Lawsy all available again. We should only have Alex
Laviers, Dan Herron and Matty Travis missing,” he continued.
The former Alnwick Town man also claimed that a legendary
ex-Rothbury striker could be set to make a return to the side.
“There’s been a little rumour that Jackie Angus has been
during some extra training and is ready to make a shock return! It’s probably
going to be a hard one to call in terms of selection, but that’s a good problem
to have.”
The boss has been delighted with the crowds that have been
turning up, but also put out a call for more people in the village to get down to
Armstrong Park and help cheer on the side.
