Rothbury v Jesmond
Team Valley Carpets Amateur Cup quarter-final
Armstrong Park, Saturday 27 October 2018, kick-off 2.00pm
MATCH SPONSOR: ROTHBURY FAMILY BUTCHERS
Home is where the heart is – and Rothbury joint player
manager Dan Herron is looking forward to the Reds getting back on their own
ground as they hope to book a spot in the last four of the Amateur Cup.
The Hillmen have been on their travels for five consecutive weeks
now, and Herron and his players would love to see a big crowd turn out to cheer
the team on.
“Obviously we love playing at home - Armstrong is a great
surface and the perfect setting for a high quality and high tempo game of
football,” he said.
“We’re delighted at the chance to make a semi final in our
first season, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves. Saturday is a big game,
and hopefully we can get the result.”
Herron may have to restrict himself to managerial
duties on the day as he is still struggling with an injury, while defensive
linchpin Tom Macpherson is also on his way back from the treatment table.
“The only injury worries are myself and Tom at the minute,
although Tom might be closer to being back than me,” continued Herron.
“The lads who’ve stepped in for him have done really well
though, which is testament to the squad depth. We’ve got a few lads away abroad
too so we might not be full strength, but it gives the squad a chance to come
in and impress again.”
Herron knows just what to expect from the Tyneside side and
Jesmond should hold no surprises for Rothbury, with the gaffer admitting: “I
would imagine the game will be a full-blooded one, like the expunged league
game was, so it’s a one we’re definitely looking forward to.”
Being top of the League in October and a string of victories
hasn’t allowed Rothbury to rest on their laurels, however, and Herron is well
aware that the side have to maintain their levels if they are to achieve
success.
“We’re loving our time in the Northern Alliance and the wins
have come quicker than we expected. It seems to be bread and butter to us now
but we need to manage complacency too,” he warned.
