Rothbury are back in League action on Saturday (29/09/18,
kick-off 2.30pm) and will look to maintain the pressure on leaders Whitley Bay
Sporting as they visit Seghill FC.
The 12th placed side, who play at Seghill Rugby Club, have
won two and lost six of their Alliance fixtures this term, conceding 34 goals
in the process.
But they were only edged out of the League Cup 3-2 by Premier
Division Seaton Delaval after extra time last weekend, and joint player manager
Tom Macpherson is confident that the Reds can avoid any complacency as he’s
well aware of the problems that any sides in the League can pose.
“We will approach Saturday’s game the same as we have done
with all our games this season - concentrating on doing our jobs right and
earning the right to play our football,” he said.
The Reds have been in Cup action over the last fortnight and
the skipper is happy to return to the bread-and-butter of the Team Valley
Carpets Second Division.
“We are looking forward to getting back to league action. The
cup games have been very good, and we hope to take that same standard into the
next three league games,” he continued.
Rothbury have set some high standards in the quality of
their play since joining the Northern Alliance in the summer and Macpherson is pleased
with both the results and the manner of the performances on the pitch so far.
“We have been over the moon with the start of the season,”
he said.
“The players have responded to everything we have asked. It
is still early days, so we have to continue the run going. The most pleasing
thing is the football we are playing - playing out from the back when possible
and playing through our midfield; this has made the football much more
enjoyable to both play in and watch.”
